This product serves as an intermediate for pyroxasulfone. Below is an overview of pyroxasulfone's usage and key features:
Pyroxasulfone, also known as KIH-485 or KUH-043, is a novel pre-emergent herbicide jointly developed by Kumiai Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Ihara Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Bayer, and BASF. Marketed under trade names such as Anthem, Fierce, Sakura, Sekura, and Zidua, it effectively controls grass and broadleaf weeds in cornfields, soybean fields, and wheat fields.
Pyroxasulfone is absorbed through weed roots and shoots, inhibiting early growth by disrupting apical meristem and coleoptile growth. It specifically targets the biosynthesis of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs), essential for plant cell membranes and cuticular waxes. The herbicide inhibits the elongation of VLCFAs such as C18:0 to C28:0, thereby preventing proper membrane formation and leading to weed death.
Pyroxasulfone is highly effective at controlling a wide range of weeds with a low application rate and extended duration of action. It demonstrates excellent crop safety and shows great promise for pre-emergent use in corn and soybean fields, potentially replacing older herbicides like acetochlor and metolachlor.
