Overview
Acarbose is a pseudo tetrasaccharide of C7N amino cyclic alcohol, which can compete with α - glucosidase and is widely used in the treatment of type II diabetes to reduce postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes patients.

Applications
Acarbose is an oligosaccharide, which can reversibly inhibit the activity of α - glucosidase on the brush border of small intestinal mucosa, slowly reduce the speed of digestion of complex polysaccharides and sucrose, and then delay the absorption of glucose. It is commonly used in the treatment of insulin dependent and non insulin dependent diabetes.
